I just returned from the Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition.
Here are the finialists, three from Inteligentsia Coffee and Tea, one from Coffee Hound, and one from Metropolis Coffee. The winner was Matt Riddle of Intelligentsia, Matt also won last year. Matt is an Indianapolis boy, he went to Pike High School, and IU. Matt is also the current United States Barista Champion.

I was privilaged to judge the first round of this competition. I enjoy juding competitions more than compeating.

I hope to have an Indianapolis barista compeating next year, perhaps even from Bjava!

Yes, we are open today. Apparently, the snow removal folks didn't think we would be!

So, I am sorry to say that we are closed today. I will make it in tomorrow, but I didn't think any of you would venture out today. I thought it best that we didn't slide into the store just on the off chance someone was willing to come out for coffee. I am sure my competitor is open, since they are more about the buck in their name than the stars they should care about.

Stay home enjoy some hot chocolate or tea, and if you have run out of coffee I will be there for you tomorrow!

The Cupping Table.
We had a successful cupping on Saturday. It was my first time to lead one, and everyone who took part seemed to enjoy themselves.
We did a blind cupping of 4 Colombian coffees. 2 were grocery store whole bean bin coffees. 1 was from Starbucks, and of course we had a Stanton Colombian. The clear taste preference was the Stanton coffee. The first time cuppers were able to detect several faults in the first 3 coffees. We learned that 3 of the coffees we cupped were fairly old. The only coffee with a known roast date was the Stanton coffee it was roasted on January 22.

The first Indianapolis Coffee Meet Up was a success! We had a total of 6 participants. We tasted 3 coffees from Stanton Coffee Roasters. All of our coffees were roasted on Monday October 16. Nice and fresh. Since the coffees were so fresh we enjoyed them brewed using the French press.

We started off with Guatamal Huehuetenago, then we had Mexico Tres Oros, and we ended the evening with Daterra Sweet Yellow Bourbon, from Brazil.

We get our coffee fresh from the roaster, Mr. Tim Stanton, every Monday afternoon. Tim is very hands on with his roasts! (These are the hands that turn green coffees into that wondrous brew we drink!)

Bjava Coffee and Tea will donate 50 cents for every raspberry latte purchased during the month of October to the Susan G Komen foundation. We will also donate $1 for each pound of our fresh roasted Pink Ribbon Blend sold during October.
