Have you been in lately to have a cup on our new brew bar? Bjava Coffee is the first independent coffee shop in Indianapolis doing the pour over coffee station. We have several friends in the industry who have been offering fresh cups of coffee this way for a very long time.

Our pour over coffee bar is available to travel with a barista for a fee. Give us call if you need a coffee bar for your office or gathering!

Stop in and try a cup freshly brewed just for you!

And now for a lovely bit of luck............

I got a call on Monday, would I do a catering for Tuesday? I almost said no, well at first I did say no. It was for 60 and I thought they were talking lunch. No they just needed a morning snack with coffee, tea and hot cider. Ok. Delivered to the airport at 10AM, Ok. Who is this for, I ask?

We need to have something for the press and staff when they get in town with Obama.

I did not drop the phone.

I said yes of course I can do this.

I baked all day Monday and into the night. You know I just have a small oven.

Well here is what I took to the airport for the President Elect and his entourage.
Mini muffins, scones, granola, yogurt, and fruit took care of the food.
The hot drinks were Fair Trade Organic coffees, 1 Guatemalan and 1 Timor, Kenyan tea, and hot apple cider from our local orchard.

So there you have it, my brush with politics and fame!

Cheers and here is to the next 4 years, may they be Great!

Espresso!
The Harvest Cafe Espresso blend will be on the bar by Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Going off will be the Higher Grounds espresso blend. Still on for a week Julian Espresso Crema.

The next roaster I plan to order from is Metropolis Coffee out of Chicago. I may be using another blend of theirs for espresso, as my machine does not run hot enough for their espresso blend.

I had a pot of the Metropolis Mocha Java blend it was awesome, I also really enjoyed their Rwanda and Tanzania Peaberry. So, bean buyers get ready for some great coffees you will need to take home!

Saying good-bye to our favorite locally roasted coffee.
We will miss you!

"Stanton Coffee has moved into the Coffee Consulting, Technology and Equipment arena.
They are discontinuing their Indianapolis Roasting Operation on June 17th. "

We are looking forward to new relationships in the coffee industry.
Bjava Coffee and Tea will still source and serve the
"Best Coffee and Espresso" in Indianapolis!

New sign

We finally got the Stanton circle sign off and the Bjava circle up!

There weren't a lot of choices for what could work in this space. Needless to say our logo would not work in a circle, well it would have left a lot of empty space in the circle.
We could have changed out the circle completely, but the space wasn't available with the what was there. We could have changed out the entire sign including "coffee shop", but the funding wasn't there.
So, with a bright light that you can read when you get closer to it, this at least will direct people to the words "coffee shop." I will try to get a better photo of it this week, this one is pretty washed out.

Off the cuff
Originally uploaded by lucysmycat.

Hey this was fun!
Paul Poteet and Tom Davis from channel 6 news and http://www.theindychannel.com/offthecuff/index.html came into Bjava to film an Off the Cuff episode. Off the Cuff is an on-line video comedy in the youtube style.
Our episode was in the style of the game show, To Tell The Truth.
You see a couple of weeks ago one of my customers came in all excited, Ginger had heard Paul refer to "Betty Barista" on the morning weather report. Ginger was sure he was talking about me, since my real name is Betty. (Now you all know! Darn it!!)

Well I took the opportunity to e-mail Paul about myself and my shop. He told me that Betty Barista is a nick name he had given his producer, Betsy, and that this sounded like a funny story. That is when I found out about "Off The Cuff", and we started planning a meeting of the "Betty's".

Filming was done over an hour to an hour and a half period. It's funny how long something that will end up being about 8 minuets long can take.

You can watch the video at the about link on Monday, but for a good chuckle don't just watch my video watch them all!

Cheers!

So, I am sorry to say that we are closed today. I will make it in tomorrow, but I didn't think any of you would venture out today. I thought it best that we didn't slide into the store just on the off chance someone was willing to come out for coffee. I am sure my competitor is open, since they are more about the buck in their name than the stars they should care about.

Stay home enjoy some hot chocolate or tea, and if you have run out of coffee I will be there for you tomorrow!

Blind Cupping, Meetup.com
Originally uploaded by lucysmycat.
The Cupping Table.
We had a successful cupping on Saturday. It was my first time to lead one, and everyone who took part seemed to enjoy themselves.
We did a blind cupping of 4 Colombian coffees. 2 were grocery store whole bean bin coffees. 1 was from Starbucks, and of course we had a Stanton Colombian. The clear taste preference was the Stanton coffee. The first time cuppers were able to detect several faults in the first 3 coffees. We learned that 3 of the coffees we cupped were fairly old. The only coffee with a known roast date was the Stanton coffee it was roasted on January 22.
