Andy has a goal of doing 1 cupping or other educational coffee service one Saturday per month. We need to keep on him so he sets up the dates in advance! July is getting away from us!

Bj Showing Jess that Barista Mag is not about hot coffee guys.
Jess and I sat down with a couple of copies of Barista Magazine and some tasty coffee. We had our photos taken for Barista Magazine's 5th anniversary issue. So we are looking forward to seeing which photo Sarah chooses to use.
Stay tuned to see what wacky things we will be up to next.

Tired but looking forward!
I found this photo in flickr, by a guy I may have met at the Coffee Talk barista jam in Ann Arbor. In the photo is Mark from Chicago, a true coffee geek, Gina from Milwaukee, my new friend on Facebook, Jess my part-timer, me, looking really tired, and Andy looking pensive, (not unusual for him.)
I keep going back to this weekend in my mind. The coffee shop we were in that day, MadCaps, doesn’t do bulk drip coffee. They don't offer a plethora of syrups, their coffees are not cheap, and yet they do good business.
Just some thoughts looking forward in to the New Year. I think that I may go back to my original idea of not having a drip coffee sitting in the pot all afternoon. So, perhaps after that last quick service lunch pot is finished I will only offer espresso, and hand poured coffees.
People are funny though, they apologize when I make them a cup of coffee this way in the afternoon, as if it is a lot of trouble for me. It is no trouble, as I want the coffee to sing, if it sits in a pot it barely hums.
Happy New Year!
What are you thinking about changing in the New Year?

We bought a new espresso machine. It is great! Stop in and get a latte. We are getting really good at our latte art. It is much easier when you have good steam power. Smooth!

Tamp!
Oh look it's me. Well the blog hasn't had any photos of me for a long time, if ever.
Andy and I went to Louisville, KY on Sunday the 11th. We took part in a barista Throwdown! at La Vida Java. This throwdown consists of making a latte with free poured art on top. Now, I am not the greatest at this feat, but I do like to try. More than anything I like hanging out with other coffee people. I learn something every time I get together with others in the business.
So, come on in and see if our latte art is any better. I think it is.
Cheers!
Bj

And now for a lovely bit of luck............
I got a call on Monday, would I do a catering for Tuesday? I almost said no, well at first I did say no. It was for 60 and I thought they were talking lunch. No they just needed a morning snack with coffee, tea and hot cider. Ok. Delivered to the airport at 10AM, Ok. Who is this for, I ask?
We need to have something for the press and staff when they get in town with Obama.
I did not drop the phone.
I said yes of course I can do this.
I baked all day Monday and into the night. You know I just have a small oven.
Well here is what I took to the airport for the President Elect and his entourage.
Mini muffins, scones, granola, yogurt, and fruit took care of the food.
The hot drinks were Fair Trade Organic coffees, 1 Guatemalan and 1 Timor, Kenyan tea, and hot apple cider from our local orchard.
So there you have it, my brush with politics and fame!
Cheers and here is to the next 4 years, may they be Great!
